Bueler’s Day Off: This bands lineup starts off like the world’s worst joke; A lawyer, a judge and an insurance salesman walk into a bar. That LITERALLY happens every time they play, because those are the jobs of a few of its members. At the end of the day, that is what this band is all about. They don’t take themselves too seriously. But they are serious about the music. It’s people, loving people. Bueler’s Day Off is an experience that, much like it’s cinematic namesake, promises a deviation from the norm. A chance to shake off the yoke of your nine-to-five grind. Bueler’s plays a wide variety of music, mainly because of the varied backgrounds of each member of the group.
Craig Mc Allister has been playing drums, singing and leading bands since his high school days. John McCracken, the judge in the group, has also been playing most of his life and is a feature performer with the Rewinders and Orchestra Kentucky. Ryan Stiles is the most prolific sax player in the region and has played with more bands in Bowling Green than he can count. He also plays, as a regular, with Fatbox and does session recording work in Nashville. When he’s not selling insurance, Jon Phelps plays acoustic guitar and brings amazing vocals to this group. He was formerly with the band 68/80. The two newest members of the band are Dan Lowe and Neil Sidebottom. Dan plays the electric guitar effortlessly and generates such a great sound, you’ll think you’re listening to the original recording. Neil is simply mesmerizing on percussion. He’s the big teddy bear of the group and adds such flair. You would think that Joshua Sturdivant and Jonathon Sturdivant, who are brothers, share the same heartbeat. Having played professionally as a touring gospel group, with their family, you will see that, even in their 30’s, they are old pros. Joshua plays keys with a passion you have never seen before. Not to be outdone, Brother Jonathon plays a 6-string bass with the same passion and power. When Alan (aka “Shooter”) Simpson isn’t in Court defending someone, his love for music is pretty obvious. Alan’s mid-life crisis was playing in a band and is self-taught on the drums and keys. He has been singing and playing piano since his childhood. His original background singers were all three of his sisters.
We know you will enjoy this band. How could you not, since they were originally, and accidentally formed at the world famous Little Brown Jug that was owned by the band’s namesake, Buel J. Simpson.
